As others have noted @RISK is a good simulation tool and
BESTFIT is excellent for distribution fitting.
Unfortunately, neither product takes into account the
underlying exposure (and consequent credibility) of cells.
I continue to remain committed to a good programming language
for writing the code myself. However, BESTFIT, especially, is
a superb STARTING point. I have found in many cases that it
produces nearly a final result. As for @RISK, I have not used a
recent release. However, as a 123 or Excel add-on, by default
it is an interpreted rather than compiled application, so it will be
relatively slow. This is fine if you only need,say, 1000 sample numbers,
but what if you need 10 million or more? Compiled apps can handle
that number (or 100 times that!) with ease with modern PC processors
and programming languages, including Visual Basic!
